Notes | In his biography of Barbauld, William McCarthy writes that "it is highly unlikely that the profile wearing a straw hat published in 1798 by Vernor and Hood as the illustration to their article on [Barbauld] in the Lady's Monthly Museum is anothing more than artist's guess" because Barbauld refused to give the magazine a portrait.[1] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
